But never before a workout! There have been studies done which have found that stretching before a workout decreases muscle gain/calorie loss, because stretching breaks muscle fibers. Therefore, you will be able to handle less weight in your workout; however, stretching after lifting can be very beneficial, because you will be breaking muscle fibers mostly with weights and then all the way with stretching.
